It's 2021 in France. A black car pulls up to an old church. Out steps a werewolf with grey fur and a burnt face. She walks inside and down a flight of stairs. A man in military gear stands outside a locked door. The wolf says," Don't make this difficult Keiran. The last time didn't end well." He groans and unlocks the door. Inside is a large table. Sat around it are various criminal leaders and warlords. The wolf sits down close to the head. Tsunami says," Ladies and Gentlemen, we have started our expansion into more unique endeavors of crime. First I want to hear the progress all of you made in the last year." Aspheera says," Plot to sink American ships carrying arms, $50,000." Cobrani said," Plot to distribute Japanese drugs in Central Asia, $1 million." A woman said," Smuggling diamonds from South Africa, $1.5 million." Tsunami said," Number 7, why is that amount not the original goal?" She replied," The price has gone done since last time. That's all we could make. Number 8 and I tried our hardest to raise prices." Tsunami said," I am aware one of you is guilty of embezzlement and have decided on the right course of action." She pressed a button and in stepped a Green armored Elite. Tsunami nodded at the Elite who then nodded back. Within seconds, Number 8 was impaled in the chest with an energy sword. Tsunami then said," Number 3, Sophie, has arranged our next plot. Please present the plan." Sophie stood up and said," Our goal is to steal 3 atomic weapons from the British, American, and Russian armies, one from each. With these, we will demand a ransom of 700 million dollars or they risk nuclear destruction. Also, many of our operatives have been captured by UN agents. This plan also will allow us to get them back. Nyx, Eclipse, Vanny, and more will be freed if they want to avoid war. In fact, we already have the weapons in hand, stationed on my yacht in the Caribbean." Tsunami said," My dear, I've set up Cobrani and Keiran to go with you as security. I'm aware you have your own, but this is a way for me to make sure you are safe." Sophie nodded and walked out along with Cobrani.
London:
James Bond walks into M's office. He says," I heard the call, ma'am. What's going on?" M replies," It appears the Collective have stolen three nuclear weapons and intend to use them against the world. We are supposed to pay them 700 million dollars and give them back their members in prison." Bond replies," Isn't this like that time SPECTRE did the same thing? No doubt they've gone to Nassau." M replies," It appears they've set up in Jamaica. All other 00's are out and your the best we have. Your mission is to find the weapons before whoever they've sent uses them. As normal, Q branch will supply you with the right tools. Oh, and try to stay focused this time Bond." Bond replies," When have I ever got distracted?" Bond leaves and departs for Jamaica. When he lands, he finds Q with a new car. Q said," Today, 007, we have the Aston Martin Virage. This model contains bulletproof glass, Headlight machine guns, radar, and your favorite, ejector seat." Bond said," That seems very nice, could do well in stopping for a rest." Q said," 007, this car is government property and very expensive. Because of your antics, our budget can't get the latest Aston models. We've had to use older models for our equipment. If you don't bring it back, I'll have some harsh words for you." Bond said," I doubt they would be that harsh." He got in the car and drove off. That night, he entered the casino. He noticed a werewolf sitting next to a serpent creature and skinwalker. He walked up and joined the game. Sophie looked at the skinwalker and whispered," Adrielle, make sure he doesn't know anything." Adrielle nodded. Bond said," What's the limit?" Sophie said," 5,000, Mister?" He replied," James Bond." Sophie chuckled and said," Well Mr. Bond, how much are you willing to bet?" He replied," I've got some incredible luck from time to time." A one-eyed demon walked up and looked at the game. She sat down and said," I want in." Sophie said," By all means, join in." Ten minutes in and Bond was winning. He said," Madame, I suggest taking your earnings and leaving before you lose more money." Sophie groaned and said," Fine if you insist. C'mon you 2, we have business to attend to." Adrielle and Cobrani got up and left with Sophie. The demon then won the game. Bond smiled and then left to follow Sophie. They disappeared around the bar. Then the demon walked up and said," You played well. I haven't seen such good playing since the 80s. Who would you be?" He replied," Bond, James Bond. You are?" She replied," Cherri Bomb." Bond said," I've heard about you from a close friend. Do you know a Charlie Magne?" Cherri replied," I do, we are friends and occasional partners. Shame that Angel couldn't make it." Bond replies," Angel Dust?" Cherri says," Yeah, he loves card games, but for some reason, he's in Miami doing some porn shit." Bond says," Can I buy you a drink." Cherri replies," No, I'd rather not right now. I've got places to be and things to do." She then got up and walked away. Bond walked outside and saw Sophie drinking a glass of wine. She said," Well, Mr. Bond, it seems neither of us can compete with demons. To prove I'm not a bad loser, how about you come to have a bite with me on my yacht." Bond replies," As tempting as that is, I have work to do." As he walked away, She said to Adrielle," Send a message to Keiran, tell him that Bond is to be killed." Adrielle said," My love, won't that reveal us?" Sophie said," If he's as good as Tsunami says he is, then we can remove him with little trouble." Cobrani said," I don't wanna be a dick, but does Tsunami know you and Adrielle are a thing?" Sophie said," She set me up with Adrielle you slithering idiot. Besides, Me and Tsunami aren't into sex. Now send word to the others. Our plan needs to be set up." The villains boarded the yacht. Sophie and Adrielle went to Sophie's cabin to make love. Cobrani groaned and went below deck. Keiran and Jill were preparing the bombs. Jill said," I assume the boss is busy?" Cobrani said," She might be more into sex than Bond. Send word to Sywn, tell her to prepare her squad. We might need soldiers." Keiran said," I'm sure that's not the only thing Sophie said." Cobrani said," She wants you to kill Bond. She thinks your the best." Keiran replies," While I'm the best, I'm not suited for this task. Bond won't be fooled by me. We need a more feminine approach."
Operation Hellfire:
Bond arrives at his hotel. He calls M and says," We definitely have some shady people down here." M replies," Any word on the bombs?" Bond says," No, as far as can tell, She's bluffing." M replies," Get back into the mix and find out more. We've got word from Tsunami that she intends to use them by the end of the week. You have 4 days to stop her agents." Bond hangs up and sighs. Back at the yacht, a helicopter lands. Sophie leans up and gets dressed. She and Adrielle walk out. Two figures step out of the chopper. It's Vanny and Nyx. Sophie said," Did they agree already?" Nyx replies," They said that their still working on it. Tsunami offered them a cutback of 50 million. Also, she's aware you and Adrielle are a thing." Sophie looks at Adrielle before turning back and saying," What else did she say?" Vanny says," She wants us to deal with Bond. Sadly we can't. But, Tsunami is looking into the assassin league for options." Adrielle says," What about Angela? She's human and attractive." Sophie says," If you want to request that, go ahead. I'm going to bed before I get a hangover." Adrielle calls Tsunami and says," The idiots you sent to deal Bond won't work. We need Angela." The next morning, Bond heads out and sees a woman with green hair and a tail. Bond walks up and says," Aren't you a beauty. What's your name miss?" She replies," Angela. I heard from my boss that you are quite the card player, Mr. Bond." They make love back in Bond's room. As Bond gets dressed and knock can be heard. He opens it and sees Sywn, Nyx, and two other goons. He slams the door and goes for his gun. Angela aims it at him and says," Sorry James. I have a job to do. Be a good sport and let them in. Bond replies," As you wish my lady." Bond opens the door and the villains walk in. They escort him down to the car and drive off. A goon holds him at gunpoint while Bond drives his Virage. Bond ejects the goon and speeds off. Nyx leans out and shoots out Bond's tires. Bond crashes and sets the car to explode. As they drive up, the Virage explodes, killing the other goon and crashing the car. As they get out, Angela and Nyx run after Bond. Sywn stays behind. Bond enters a club. Angela and Nyx walk in. Nyx goes behind a curtain while Angela goes up to Bond. She says," That wasn't very kind of you Mr. Bond. How about we have a dance." As they dance, Nyx aims her pistol at Bond. Bond sees the gun. Nyx fires a shot. Bond spins Angela around and she is shot in the back and dies. Nyx runs off. Bond sets Angela down and says," Don't mind her, she's just dead." He then walks off. Nyx calls Sophie and says," Uh, Angela is dead." Sophie shouts," HOW THE FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN?" Nyx replies," Bond is Bond, He can kill anyone." Sophie says," You and Swyn need to get back here. I'm sending Keiran to kill him." The next day, Bond meets Cherri at the beach. They lounge in the sun, Keiran pulls up and hides behind a bush. Cherri says," There's someone behind that bush." Bond turns and grabs a harpoon. He fires it at Keiran. It impales him to a palm tree. Bond gets up and says," I think he got the point. I'll meet you at 7 tonight." They split up. Bond goes to meet with Cherri. When he gets there, a note is all that remains. It reads If you want the girl, give up your search and surrender to Sywn. Bond turns around and sees Sywn standing there with a pistol. She says," Time to go." They get on a boat and head to Sophie's yacht. On the way, Bond rams the controls and leaps off the boat. The boat crashes into the yacht, killing the driver and injuring Sywn. Bond climbs on board the yacht. Sophie and Adrielle step out holding guns and search the yacht along with Jill and Cobrani. Bond strangles a guard before taking his weapon. Another guard is shot by Bond. Jill leaps on Bond. He throws her on a small boat. Adrielle grabs a knife and swings at Bond. He shoots her in the leg and throws her into the boat. He then shoots the engine, causing it to explode. Cobrani shoots at Bond, but is hit in the head with an air tank. Bond goes below deck to find Cherri. He finds her tied to a pipe. Sophie aims at him and says," Times up Bond. You and the demon will die. Even if the plan doesn't work, I'll still blow up Miami or someplace." Bond says," Yes, if only your mind was more open." Sophie cocked the pistol and chuckles. Cherri kicks a panel, sending sparks at Sophie. Bond lunges at her and falls into the water. Bond climbs back up and frees Cherri. Sophie also climbs up and says," Why won't you just die?" Bond says," Force of habit my dear." Bond throws Sophie at a group of canisters. She trips on a chain and accidentally shoots one. The room starts on fire. Bond and Cherri race to the upper deck. They leap off after sending the ship to crash. Sophie climbs up in time to see the rocks hit the yacht. The flames and debris engulf her as the boat sinks. Bond says," Well, she went out a blaze of Hellfire." Cherri said," We're stranded." Bond replies," Not yet." A boat survived the flames. They climb on board and set their course. Bond then kisses Cherri as the flames roar on. She says," Aren't you a fun one." Bond replies," You have no idea." They make love.

Set Off For the Best Island Vacations in the Tropics

I wish less games felt the need to flatter the player's ego.

It is difficult to overstate how much I love the Mass Effect trilogy. I was 14 when the last game came out, and I think up to that point, it was the most anticipated event in my life. I still remember waking up early every morning before school and frantically checking the BSN to see if any news had dropped during the night. Looking back now, I don't know if any gaming experience could ever match that excitement.
But for all my love, the Mass Effect Trilogy ended up suffering heavily from a common enough practice in the industry: fawning over the player character so that the player can feel powerful. Towards the end of the trilogy, the games are constantly telling you Commander Shepard is the greatest soldier in history. That Commander Shepard is the only being the Reapers fear. That Commander Shepard has the awe and speechless admiration of every person in the universe. His general best-ness is so pervasive, you stop considering whether your character even has limitations. Shepard never has the opportunity to pilot a starfighter in the games, but I get the feeling he's still the most deadly fighter ace in the cosmos. You never get to gamble at any of the casinos you enter, but I bet if you could, you would walk away with the deed to the place with a single Renegade dialogue choice. Honestly, a band wrote an entire song about how you can fight like a Krogan and run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard. The only thing the game feels comfortable telling you Shepard sucks at is dancing.
One moment sticks out in my mind in particular. In the third game, your best friend and longtime lancer Garrus Vakarian invites you to his favorite spot on the Citadel. The two of you take a break from the war and just spend a few minutes tossing beer bottles and blowing them out of the sky. It is a great scene with one of the series' best characters, and a welcome rest from the weight of the game's plot. The problem is that when it's your turn to take a shot, you get two options: "Shoot the bottle" and "Miss on purpose." Garrus Vakarian is a freaking deadly sniper, probably one of the best shots in the entire galaxy. His entire persona and a lot of his character is based around him being The Sniper. But you're Commander Shepard, so even if you are playing a space wizard that hasn't touched a sniper rifle since basic, you can still outshoot him without even trying. His seriousness as a character and credibility as a companion is undermined for some pointless ego stroking. Would it have been so hard to let a companion school us, even for just a moment?
It's a small thing, but so many games seem completely unwilling to suggest that there might exist anyone out there who is better than you. That you aren't, in fact, the deadliest, handsomest, most implacable hero-man the world has ever seen. I think Mass Effect overdoes it, but by far the worst example I've ever seen is Skyrim. That game stacks praise upon you so quickly and so thickly it was impossible for me to take seriously. I remember starting the game and becoming both the legendary Dovahkiin and Harbinger of the Companions within two hours. By accident. Every character in the whole breadth of Skyrim can be seduced with an amulet and a dialogue option, because you, the player, are irresistible. You can be a vampire Dragonborn muskrat who leads the assassin's guild, the bard and wizard colleges, the thieves guild, the Blades, and the werewolves all at the same time. But none of it means anything! None of those titles have any significance or acknowledgement in the game's world. They sound impressive, but are really empty and worthless achievements meant to make the player feel important for completing a thirty minute quest line.
Do game developers think so little of us? That all gamers want is to feel powerful, and we will buy even the shallowest and most transparent wish-fulfillment fantasies if they make them? They might be right, but I wish we could have more mature protagonists and storylines in gaming that didn't feel the need to prop up our ego every five minutes. Games where the hero doesn't always get the girl, and will lose fights if he challenges his betters, and does not end up reshaping the world in his image. Games where you are not special.
The most famous rebuttal of this kind of grovelling hero fantasy is of course, Spec Ops: The Line, but I never liked that game. It seems to me like they made a mediocre, generic shooter and then hated you for playing it. I want to bring up three other games that I think gave the player a different take on stories without shitting all over them. Spoilers abound.
Halo: Reach
In Reach, you play a total badass: Noble Six, famous lone wolf Spartan III. And you know what it gets you? A lonely death in the final moments before your planet is annihilated from orbit. Sure, you're not someone to fuck with, but there are plenty of people scarier than you in your squad alone, and none of you have shit on the Covenant. You gun down hundreds of enemies like any FPS protagonist, but it isn't enough to save Reach. It's not even close, and the game never lets you think it is. You are only one soldier, super or not, and there's nothing you can do. Over the course of the campaign, your squad gets picked off one by one until you are the last man standing. Your efforts are not for nothing: you rescue Cortana and allow the Master Chief to get off world and eventually save the day. But you don't live to see it. Reach's campaign is empowering and makes you feel like a badass, but it also make you feel hope, loss, despair, pain, fear, and bloody defiance. Its credits sequence is to this day one of the most elegant marriages of gameplay and theme I've ever seen.
Dragon Age: Origins
Though the stakes are much lower in this game, DAO made me feel something Mass Effect never managed: that I couldn't do it. When the game starts, you are a nobody yanked from the jaws of death by the sudden intervention of a badass Grey Warden. There's a war on, and you are given a minor but important task to play on the sidelines of a battle, as befits someone who's been a Warden for 30 minutes. Next thing you know, everything has gone to shit, the king is dead, his army scattered, the world is going to end, and the only people who are remotely qualified to handle the situation are the other Grey Wardens. Who just died to a man defending the king. Oh, and a traitor is blocking all reinforcements from the outside world and sending assassins to kill you. You are saved by a super creepy and ludicrously untrustworthy swamp witch and all you have is a single companion, whose been a Warden for less than a year, and a stack of ancient treaties promising support in a time of Blight. Your only option is to approach the Lord, Kings and Chieftains of your country like beggars with nothing but scraps of paper signed a thousand years before and "please." I remember standing in that swamp and thinking "How in the hell are we going to pull this off? This is just too big for us." Of course, it's an RPG, so I should have known that we would end up saving the day. But in that moment, I was overwhelmed, and realized that I needed to be brave even though the game wasn't telling me how brave I was.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Black Flag is fondly remembered for its excellent naval combat and fun pirating gameplay, but I was blown away by its story. I think it managed to accomplish what Spec Ops: the Line tried to do: make the player question their actions. Edward Kenway is the hero, and he is a genuine swashbuckler's swashbuckler. Four pistols, two swords, a ship full of cannons, a lust for treasure, and a devil-may-care attitude. He's also kind of a shithead. He's terminally selfish and unbearably immature, risking his life at sea just so he can blow all his money on rum and wenches at the closest port. He never thinks about how his actions affect the people around him, and though he feels bad when he screws over a friend, it's not enough to make him change. Edward wants to live the same fantasy the players do, and the story lets him, but it also shows the consequences of that lifestyle. The game starts with you and a gang of pirates claiming Nassau port and toasting to an age of freedom on the open seas. As the story progresses, all of your friends either die when the law catches up to them, go legit and sell you out, or outgrow you and leave to fight for a cause. In the end, you are left with no one, having pushed away anyone who cared about you. You have to pick yourself up and try to make things right. It's quite a thoughtful arc buried in a pretty mindless pirate game, and it makes me wonder how many people blew past the story without catching its meaning.

Hello all! Got another story for you. This happened just recently as my family and I just returned from a cruise to celebrate my grandparents 50th anniversary. It was a 5 days cruise that ported out of Jacksonville, FL to the Bahamas. Out of my household, myself, my mom and my sister went, leaving my brother and dad behind. My mom’s sister and her husband brought along their 4 youngest kids and of course my grandparents, 11 of us in total. If you read my last post, this is the same family we were visiting during the Plane Karen incident.
This story will be recounting our unfortunate time with our deck neighbor Karen. At this point we should know the basic cast of characters, so I’ll only include; GP/M~ Grandpa/ ma, H ~ Karen’s “Husband” (he doesn’t really have much to add to this story) and KK ~ Karen’s Kids.
It all begins once we’re beginning to board and making our way to our room. My mom managed an extended balcony room to mine and my sister’s utter delight. Worth the extra coinage. Our door had been propped open as we were waiting for our bags to arrive, so meantime we were exploring the room. Directly across the hall, I spot a man (H) and two kids come out and briefly look into out room. Not totally weird in my book honestly. I tend to feel snoopish now and again as I walk the hall and see other doors open. He took the kids down the hall right as our luggage appeared. We unpacked and got settled, door still open a bit. I see H and kids come back with a small plate of food in hand (lunch was going on whilst people still boarded. This was around 2pm-ish). He made another glance into our room again before shutting his own door. And that was that until dinner around six, a couple of hours after we left the port into open water. I made my way to dinner first; I had to walk at a slower pace to better accommodate my foot which was not fairing well after surgery 9 months prior (read last post). As I stepped foot outside the threshold of my room, the door across from me flew open, a woman (tall, skinny, blonde blue eyes) looked my up and down and gave me one of those looks. Like something was amiss to her, before she muttered a “Hello” before walking down the hall. And it was at that time I noticed a couple plates of leftover food and utensils sitting by our door. We hadn’t eaten yet, so I knew this wasn’t ours. I brushed it off and left for the dining hall.
After dinner, all three of us came back down our hall to find the same women knocking on our door. My mom got her attention with an “Hello, can we help you?” The women jumped a bit then put on her biggest smile.
K: “Hello! We’re directly across from you and I was hoping to ask you for a favor?” By this time, we made it to our door, and I told my sister to go inside, and as she did so, giving the woman a look inside our room. she continued.
K: “It’s our first cruise and I am not to familiar with the boats. So, when we were booking, we didn’t know about the balcony rooms. And then I noticed you have a balcony and..” my mom cut her off.
M: “So, what’s your favor? You need tips on how to book a balcony for next time?” my mom was tired after dinner and it had been a long day. She didn’t want to deal with this. The women shook her head.
K: “Oh no, no, no. I was hoping you’d switch rooms with us, so I can give my kids a great experience on their first cruise. It shouldn’t be a problem. See, your cards are red, so you’ve cruised before and know what a balcony feels like. What do you say” I actually snort laughed at her “idea” to which my mom shooed me into the room, looked to Karen and said with the fakest of smiles, “No thank you. Have a goodnight and a lovely vacation.” and shut the door. I bust out laughing. She looked so sure and confident that this would work. Without going over the entire reasoning as to why this wouldn’t work, she totally didn’t think this whole thing through.
Later in the evening I had gotten hungry again and ordered room service. As my food arrived and I opened the door to let the attendant in, on cue, the woman and H came out of their rooms dressed all fancy, then she spotted me and narrowed her eyes at me, to which I snort chuckled, thanked the attendant and closed to door in her face. And that, my friends was just the beginning of Cruise Karen.
She began her tirade of petty nuisances the first sea day (Day 1), when after my family had gotten back to our rooms after breakfast, she’d come out of her room and just give us mean looks and “humphed” her tired ass down the hall with her family. The maybe after 15 or so minutes, they would return with so much food, 1 to 2 plates a person. We’d always open our door to a suspicious big pile of dirty dishes next to our door. We knew it was them and I think she thought that she could make us out to look like pigs/ slobs or something for always have a mass of dishes. Thankfully, our steward, made his rounds more frequently than others, and always picked them up in a timely manner. Later in the day, we received notice that someone was complaining about noise and the smell of cigarettes being smoked across the hall. If I'm honest, these room are nearly soundproof wall to wall. You seldom hear anything unless you actually walk outside your room, and barely anything there still. We knew. And nothing came of it.
I had gone to sunbathe on the Lido Deck towards the back of the boat. I had found a nice secluded spot near the back, in a corner. I had been there about 20-ish minutes when I felt the spritz of water fall on me. There was not a cloud in the sky and the waterslide was far away enough water couldn’t touch me. It was then I had noticed two familiar children running away from my direction and towards a chair with someone in it. It was her kids. And no later had I recognized them, with their huge water guns, had the Karen peeked around her chair, lifting her shades a bit to see me. She zipped back around the second we made eye contact. I stood my ground and continued to sunbathe, not willing to give up a prime spot for soaking in that Vitamin D. The sun has a way of relaxing you and making you sleepy. I had my shades on and pretty much laid lifeless for the most part. This led to Karen to probably believing I had fallen asleep and shooed her kids over towards me again, but before they could do anything, my mom had shown up and “yelled” at them the scram. They did and ran to Karen, whom shot us multiple glares, but never said anything and that was the end of that. My mom took the chair up beside me and we sat there for a little over two hours. At least twice more that day, we found more piles of dishes by our door and later that night, Karen tried to discreetly get me in trouble by telling the bouncer of the night club that I had snuck in and was underaged. Karen was still not too bright as our room cards have a barcode employee’s scan that display our names and ages as displayed on our passports. So of course, nothing came of this and I stayed. I even ordered a large alcoholic beverage and saluted Karen on the dance floor. She huffed and stomped away.
The next day (Day 2), we ported into Paradise Island. Bahamas. Myself, my mom and my sister made our way off the boat and onto the ferry that takes you from Nassau to Paradise Island. S/N: Our grandparents own two timeshare properties on PI, right next door to the Atlantis Resort, and they are granted full access passes every year to the Atlantis Waterpark and its' multiple aquariums, whenever they go. Our family has experienced the Bahamas three times and were familiar with the territory/ process. Our GP’s opted to tour the city, so we were allowed to use said passes. Upon getting there, we enter in through the casino to get through to the first part of the aquarium. When we get to the threshold (there’s always a guard checking for Atlantis passes at this point. No passes and/ or ticket, no entry. Simple.), there’s Karen and her family. She’s trying her best not to make a scene, but she looks angry. As we grew closer, we could hear their conversation. She wants entry into the water park but has no pass or ticket. None of them do. They assumed it came free with the cruise. The guard explains plainly, no ticket, no entry. Karen ranted some more, the guard ignored her at that point. We made our way to the guard and flashed our passes; the guard smiles at us and starts to move aside. Karen noticed this immediately and her face contorted in fury, then just as quickly scheming. Karen was not a creature of subtlety, as the guard moved to let us by, Karen tried to shove her kids into us.
K: “We’re actually with them. They know us from the cruise and can vouch for us. Hey. Hey! May we use those passes too? My kids deserve to experience this. The next day (Day 3), we docked in The Princess Cays and took my little cousin with us. I spotted Karen a few times on the far side of the beach as we swam and sunbathed on the other, I don’t know if she saw us too, but nothing was had that day either. On the second sea day (Day 4), I decided to stay in the room most the day to recuperate from the swimming and sun from the days prior. I was exhausted. I was taking naps whenever during the day, having only left the room for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My mom had gone out with her sister for the evening and my sister was out at the deck party. My twin cousins stopped by to enjoy the balcony for a bit and just hang out. About 8 in the evening, there was a knock. I got up thinking it was my room service I had ordered (don’t shame me, room service is great and the food is damn good). Nope. Karen; all dolled up and fancy with her two kids. I muttered an, “Oh my god” before asking if I could help her. Karen, with one of those irked looks on her face braves a fake ass smile.
K: “Yes hi, I need someone to watch my kids so my husband and I can go out for our last night on this ship. I thought you wouldn’t mind since you’re not doing anything AND caused us that trouble in the Bahamas and embarrassed me in front of all those people. You owe us this much.” She started to push her kids slowly to the door, telling them that Mommy and Daddy would see them in a couple hours. I’m terrible at guessing kids ages, but they came up to barely must waist, and I’m 4’11’’. I blocked the door, and I could see she was getting furious.
M: “Okay, listen. This is getting so ridiculous. We don’t owe you or your privileged family anything. It’s really sad to see a grown woman act like a spoiled brat just because she lacked the knowledge to plan ahead and book the room she wanted, and NOW must try to sabotage my family’s vacation and my good time. I am not having it. You are not leaving your kids with me. A stranger, no less. What kind of parent are you? What normal person does this?” I whisper shouted at her. I was done with her bs. I was tired, sunburned and suffering a bit of heat exhaustion. Though I looked and felt like shiz, I sure as hell was not about to take this. Karen just stared, mouth agape trying to come up with some retort. At that moment, my cousins came in outside from the balcony, and it was at that Karen thought she had leverage.
K: “Well then, who are they!? Why do they get to spend time on the balcony and my kids can’t? This isn’t fair! You are going to watch my kids. You will! You will! Or I’m going to complain!” I rebutted,
M: “I owe you nothing. They are here for the simple fact that they're family and welcome in here. You are not welcome. Take your kids back to your own sad little room and I will be launching a complaint for your constant harassment.” I close the door. Karen placed a hard hit to our door before huffing out a long roar before storming off and her kids crying. I told my mom what happened, and we did make a complaint. I don’t know what happened to Karen and her family after that. We didn’t see nor hear of or from them for the rest of that night, or the next morning when we ported into Jacksonville. Aside from our adventures with her, this was a great vacation and one I got to take with the side of the family I rarely see. This story was told to my Aunt and Uncle, and they made a point to ask if my mom and I just have bad luck with such encounters with these people. We laughed about it; Mom: “Let’s hope to universe gives us a break. I really wanted to knock her ass out.” We all left and went our separate ways for now as our grandparents took us to the airport.

Hello all! Got another story for you. This happened just recently as my family and I just returned from a cruise to celebrate my grandparents 50th anniversary. It was a 5 days cruise that ported out of Jacksonville, FL to the Bahamas. Out of my household, myself, my mom and my sister went, leaving my brother and dad behind. My mom’s sister and her husband brought along their 4 youngest kids and of course my grandparents, 11 of us in total. If you read my last post, this is the same family we were visiting during the Plane Karen incident.
This story will be recounting our unfortunate time with our deck neighbor Karen. At this point we should know the basic cast of characters, so I’ll only include; GP/M~ Grandpa/ ma, H ~ Karen’s “Husband” (he doesn’t really have much to add to this story) and KK ~ Karen’s Kids.
It all begins once we’re beginning to board and making our way to our room. My mom managed an extended balcony room to mine and my sister’s utter delight. Worth the extra coinage. Our door had been propped open as we were waiting for our bags to arrive, so meantime we were exploring the room. Directly across the hall, I spot a man (H) and two kids come out and briefly look into out room. Not totally weird in my book honestly. I tend to feel snoopish now and again as I walk the hall and see other doors open. He took the kids down the hall right as our luggage appeared. We unpacked and got settled, door still open a bit. I see H and kids come back with a small plate of food in hand (lunch was going on whilst people still boarded. This was around 2pm-ish). He made another glance into our room again before shutting his own door. And that was that until dinner around six, a couple of hours after we left the port into open water. I made my way to dinner first; I had to walk at a slower pace to better accommodate my foot which was not fairing well after surgery 9 months prior (read last post). As I stepped foot outside the threshold of my room, the door across from me flew open, a woman (tall, skinny, blonde blue eyes) looked my up and down and gave me one of those looks. Like something was amiss to her, before she muttered a “Hello” before walking down the hall. And it was at that time I noticed a couple plates of leftover food and utensils sitting by our door. We hadn’t eaten yet, so I knew this wasn’t ours. I brushed it off and left for the dining hall.
After dinner, all three of us came back down our hall to find the same women knocking on our door. My mom got her attention with an “Hello, can we help you?” The women jumped a bit then put on her biggest smile.
K: “Hello! We’re directly across from you and I was hoping to ask you for a favor?” By this time, we made it to our door, and I told my sister to go inside, and as she did so, giving the woman a look inside our room. she continued.
K: “It’s our first cruise and I am not to familiar with the boats. So, when we were booking, we didn’t know about the balcony rooms. And then I noticed you have a balcony and..” my mom cut her off. “So, what’s your favor? You need tips on how to book a balcony for next time?” my mom was tired after dinner and it had been a long day. She didn’t want to deal with this. The women shook her head, “Oh no, no, no. I was hoping you’d switch rooms with us, so I can give my kids a great experience on their first cruise. It shouldn’t be a problem. See, your cards are red, so you’ve cruised before and know what a balcony feels like. What do you say” I actually snort laughed at her “idea” to which my mom shooed me into the room, looked to Karen and said with the fakest of smiles, “No thank you. Have a goodnight and a lovely vacation.” and shut the door. I bust out laughing. She looked so sure and confident that this would work. Without going over the entire reasoning as to why this wouldn’t work, she totally didn’t think this whole thing through.
Later in the evening I had gotten hungry again and ordered room service. As my food arrived and I opened the door to let the attendant in, on cue, the woman and H came out of their rooms dressed all fancy, then she spotted me and narrowed her eyes at me, to which I snort chuckled, thanked the attendant and closed to door in her face. And that, my friends was just the beginning of Cruise Karen.
She began her tirade of petty nuisances the first sea day (Day 1), when after my family had gotten back to our rooms after breakfast, she’d come out of her room and just give us mean looks and “humphed” her tired ass down the hall with her family. The maybe after 15 or so minutes, would return with so much food. We’d always open our door to a suspicious big pile of dirty dishes next to our door. We knew it was them and I think she thought that she could make us out to look like pigs/ slobs or something for always have a mass of dishes. Thankfully, our steward, made his rounds more frequently than others, and always picked them up in a timely manner. Later in the day, we received notice that someone was complaining about noise and the smell of cigarettes being smoked across the hall. We knew. Nothing came of it. I had gone to sunbathe on the Lido Deck towards the back of the boat. I had found a nice secluded spot near the back, in a corner. I had been there about 20ish minutes when I felt the spritz of water fall on me. There was not a cloud in the sky and the waterslide was far away enough water couldn’t touch me. It was then I had noticed two familiar children running away from my direction and towards a chair with someone in it. It was her kids. And no later had I recognized them, with their huge water guns, had the Karen peeked around her chair, lifting her shades a bit to see me. She zipped back around the second we made eye contact. I stood my ground and continued to sunbathe, not willing to give up a prime spot for soaking in that Vitamin D. The sun has a way of relaxing you and making you sleepy. I had my shades on and pretty much laid lifeless for the most part. This led to Karen to probably believing I had fallen asleep and shooed her kids over towards me again, but before they could do anything, my mom had shown up and “yelled” at them the scram. They did and ran to Karen, whom shot us multiple glares, but never said anything and that was the end of that. My mom took the chair up beside me and we sat there for a little over two hours. At least twice more that day, we found more piles of dishes by our door and later that night, Karen tried to discreetly get me in trouble by telling the bouncer of the night club that I had snuck in and was underaged. Karen was still not too bright as our room cards have a barcode employee’s scan that display our names and ages as displayed on our passports. So of course, nothing came of this and I stayed. I even ordered a large alcoholic beverage and saluted Karen on the dance floor. She huffed and stomped away.
The next day, we ported into Paradise Island. Bahamas. Myself, my mom and my sister made our way off the boat and onto the ferry that takes you from Nassau to Paradise Island. S/N: Our grandparents own two timeshare properties on PI, right next door to the Atlantis Resort, and they are granted full access passes every years to the Atlantis Waterpark and multiple aquariums, whenever they go. Our family has experienced the Bahamas three times and were familiar with the territory/ process. Our GP’s opted to tour the city, so we were allowed said passes for free access into the waterpark and aquarium. Upon getting there, we enter in through the casino to get through to the first part of the aquarium. When we get to the threshold (there’s always a guard checking for Atlantis passes at this point. No passes and/ or ticket, no entry. Simple.), there’s Karen and her family. She’s trying her best not to make a scene, but she looks angry. As we grew closer, we could hear their conversation. She wants entry into the water park but has no pass or ticket. None of them do. They assumed it came free with the cruise. The guard explains plainly, no ticket, no entry. Karen ranted some more, the guard ignored her at that point. We made our way to the guard and flashed our passes. Karen noticed this immediately and her face contorted in fury, then just as quickly scheming. Karen was not a creature of subtlety, as the guard moved to let us by, Karen tried to shove her kids into us.
K: “We’re actually with them. They know us from the cruise and can vouch for us. Hey. Hey! May we use those passes too? My kids deserve to experience this.
